The Baltimore Ravens have appointed Jesse Minter as their new head coach, following his successful tenure as the Los Angeles Chargers' defensive coordinator.

The Baltimore Ravens have named Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter as their next head coach, the team announced Thursday. The hiring comes just over two weeks after the Ravens parted ways with John Harbaugh following 19 seasons.

Minter, 42, spent the last two seasons coordinating the Chargers' defense, which ranked among the NFL's elite units. Before that, he served as Michigan's defensive coordinator for two seasons, helping the Wolverines capture the national championship in 2023. He followed Jim Harbaugh to Los Angeles for the coordinator role.

Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta praised the hire in a statement: "Jesse is a strong leader who possesses a brilliant football mind and a spirit that will resonate with our players and fanbase alike. Jesse comes from a football family, with success at every level of the sport, and we are confident that he is the right coach to lead the Ravens forward."

Minter's Baltimore Connection

This is not Minter's first rodeo in Baltimore. He spent four seasons (2017-20) as a defensive assistant with the Ravens before departing to become Vanderbilt's defensive coordinator in 2021.

A Top-Tier Candidate

Minter emerged as one of this offseason's most coveted coaching candidates. FOX Sports ranked him the fifth-best head coach prospect available. The Ravens' vacancy itself was widely regarded as the most desirable head coaching job on the market.

"I am truly honored to serve as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens," Minter said in a statement. "This is an organization whose values, culture and tradition of excellence reflect everything I believe about the game of football and how it should be played."
