FOX Preps First Tripleheader in Over a Decade as Patriots-Lions Clash in Munich
New England Patriots face Detroit Lions in Germany, highlighting FOX's first tripleheader in over a decade with a day-long NFL broadcast.
New England will host Detroit at Allianz Arena in Germany on Sunday, Nov. 15, kicking off FOX's ambitious Week 10 slate that culminates with Cowboys-49ers.
FOX will air its first tripleheader in over a decade on Sunday, Nov. 15, stretching across the entire day of programming. The marathon begins with the New England Patriots hosting the Detroit Lions at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, at 9:30 a.m. ET and concludes with the Dallas Cowboys hosting the San Francisco 49ers on "America's Game of the Week."
The Munich matchup marks the third NFL game at Allianz Arena. The venue drew roughly 70,000 fans each time it hosted previous games: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady defeated the Seattle Seahawks in 2022, and the Carolina Panthers narrowly beat the New York Giants in overtime in 2024. Munich will host another game in 2028 as the NFL expands its international footprint.
German fans have embraced American football with enthusiasm, singing word-perfect renditions of songs like John Denver's "Country Roads" and Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" during games. FOX Sports broadcast the NFL's first international game in 2007 when the New York Giants defeated the Miami Dolphins in London.
Super Bowl Teams Dominate International Play
Teams arriving in international games fresh off a Super Bowl appearance have compiled a 4-1 record in the past decade. The Patriots will look to capitalize on that trend.
The lone exception: the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil, last year after losing the previous Super Bowl. But the Chiefs bounced back to beat the Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt in 2023 as defending champions. The Los Angeles Rams won in London in 2019 after a Super Bowl loss; the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars in London in 2018 as defending champs; and the Patriots beat the Raiders in 2017 in the same capacity.
Patriots Have German Experience
Several New England players have played in Germany before. The Patriots lost 10-6 to the Colts in Frankfurt during the 2023 season in Bill Belichick's final year, with running back Rhamondre Stevenson rushing for 88 yards and rookie receiver DeMario Douglas catching six passes for 84 yards. That game saw the Patriots bench Mac Jones on the final drive, with Bailey Zappe throwing a game-sealing interception following a fake spike.
New England sits 3-2 all-time in international games, also losing to the Jaguars in London in 2024. Only three franchises have played more international games: the Jaguars (14), Miami Dolphins (7), and Minnesota Vikings (6). Detroit has played just two international games, edging the Atlanta Falcons in London in 2014 and losing to the Chiefs there in 2015.
Offensive tackle Lorenz Metz, a 6-foot-9, 310-pound prospect in the NFL's International Player Pathway Program, was born in Germany. One of the most successful German-born NFL players was Patriots offensive lineman Sebastian Vollmer, who won two Super Bowl rings with New England and made 80 starts between 2009 and 2015.
Carlton Davis Returns to Munich
Patriots cornerback Carlton Davis played every snap in Tampa Bay's 2022 Munich victory, collecting four tackles. He has now played for both teams competing Sunday, starting 13 games for Detroit in 2024 before joining the Patriots last year and starting every game on their path to a Super Bowl, including two playoff interceptions.
Defensive end Myles Adams, who spent the last two years on Detroit's practice squad, played for the Seahawks in Munich in 2022 and recorded one tackle in the loss.
Petzing Brings New Offensive Vision to Detroit
Detroit's offense ranked in the top five in scoring from 2022-24 and led the NFL in 2024 before Ben Johnson departed to become the Chicago Bears' head coach. The Lions ranked fourth last year at 28 points per game but moved on from offensive coordinator John Morton, hiring Drew Petzing.
At just 39, Petzing could become a head coaching candidate if the Lions offense thrives. The New England native attended high school in Wellesley, Massachusetts, during the Patriots' heyday and began his coaching career at Harvard, Boston College, and Yale.
Detroit has undergone significant offensive changes. Running back David Montgomery was traded to the Texans and replaced by Isiah Pacheco. Pro Bowl tackle Penei Sewell moves from right to left tackle, with free agent Cade Mays stepping in at center and first-round pick Blake Miller taking right tackle. Second-year receiver Isaac TeSlaa—who caught six touchdown passes among 16 receptions as a rookie—could emerge as a breakout star.
Can Drake Maye Sustain His Dominance?
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye narrowly missed MVP honors after orchestrating one of the NFL's most dramatic turnarounds. New England surged from 4-13 in 2024 to 14-3 and captured the AFC championship with Maye's emergence in his second season at the center of the transformation.
Maye threw 31 touchdowns with just eight interceptions—more than doubling his rookie touchdown total while throwing two fewer picks. The Patriots offense averaged 28 points per game in 2025, the second-best in the NFL and a full 12 points better than the previous year.
New England invested aggressively to support sustained excellence: $68 million to receiver Romeo Doubs from the Packers, a first-round pick on offensive tackle Caleb Lomu, and free agent guard Alijah Vera-Tucker from the Jets. Running back TreVeyon Henderson rushed for 911 yards and nine touchdowns as a rookie and could expand his role.
The looming question: Can Maye and the Patriots sustain or exceed their elite scoring output?
