Patriots Return to Super Bowl LX After Stunning Turnaround
The New England Patriots, led by head coach Mike Vrabel and young quarterback Drake Maye, defy the odds to make a record 12th Super Bowl appearance, seeking to claim the most Super Bowl wins by any franchise.
The New England Patriots will face either the Los Angeles Rams or Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX on February 8 at Levi's Stadium, with kickoff at 6:30 p.m. ET.
This marks the Patriots' 12th Super Bowl appearance—a record for most appearances in NFL history. New England arrives seeking to break a six-title tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most Super Bowl wins by any franchise.
From Collapse to Championship
The Patriots' path to the Super Bowl defies recent history. After back-to-back 4-13 seasons in 2023 and 2024, New England carried +6000 odds entering this season—a monumental long shot.
The turnaround hinges on two hires: Mike Vrabel as head coach and the emergence of quarterback Drake Maye.
Vrabel, a three-time Super Bowl winner as a Patriots player, took over and immediately stamped the team with his management style. Players credited his blunt honesty with making him easy to respect as a leader, and he's already earned Coach of the Year finalist consideration.
Drake Maye's Rapid Rise
At just 23 years old, Maye is the second-youngest quarterback to reach the Super Bowl in NFL history. The second-year signal-caller finished the regular season with the second-best odds to win MVP, leading the league in passer rating and completion percentage.
His playoff performance has been uneven—five turnovers in the first two games and just 86 passing yards in the Patriots' title-clinching win. Yet offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has accelerated Maye's development by showing him film of Tom Brady, whom McDaniels coached for 20 seasons in New England.
"Josh was with them for 20 years, so why would you not want to show how this offense can be executed at the highest level," veteran tight end Hunter Henry said. "That's what we expect. Obviously, not [Drake] to be [Brady]—they're very different players—but you want to elevate and show them the best."
Formidable Defense Awaits
The Patriots dismantled two elite defenses to reach the Super Bowl, defeating the Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans in their first two playoff games.
If Seattle wins its conference championship, New England will face four of the league's top six defenses this postseason. If the Rams prevail, Super Bowl LX becomes a clash of MVP favorites: Matthew Stafford, the betting favorite after earning first-team All-Pro honors and seeking his second title, against Maye.
