Patriots Return to Super Bowl in Brady's Backyard
Super Bowl LX will feature a rematch between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, with the Patriots' road to the championship game especially meaningful for Tom Brady and praised by former teammates.
Super Bowl LX will hit close to home for Tom Brady. The championship game takes place in Santa Clara, California—less than 30 miles from his hometown of San Mateo—and will feature the New England Patriots, the franchise Brady quarterbacked to six titles.
The Patriots punched their ticket to the Super Bowl with a 10-7 victory over the Denver Broncos in Sunday's AFC Championship Game. Brady, calling the NFC Championship Game for FOX, immediately saluted his former team's achievement.
"Just so happy for Mike Vrabel, a former teammate of mine. New England, no one was quite sure how well they would do. Back-to-back 4-13 seasons and they turned around to get a road AFC Championship victory in Denver. I know how hard that is. Josh McDaniels has done an incredible job as coordinator, Drake Maye and that defense—this is going to be an incredible Super Bowl matchup."
Patriots-Seahawks Rematch
This will mark the second Super Bowl matchup between New England and Seattle. Their first encounter, Super Bowl XLIX, ended dramatically when Malcolm Butler intercepted Russell Wilson at the goal line in the final seconds, securing a 28-24 Patriots victory.
That game showcased Brady at his peak: trailing by 10 in the fourth quarter, he led a comeback, throwing for 328 yards and four touchdowns to earn Super Bowl MVP honors.
Historic Feat in Denver
Brady will attend Super Bowl LX, already impressed by his former team's accomplishment. The Patriots achieved something Brady never did in his career: win a playoff game at Denver. Brady lost all three playoff games he played there.
"Such an exciting achievement for the teams that validate all the things you try to embody when you win that championship game on the road. Just unbelievable joy and elation."
Gronkowski's Bullish Take
Former Patriots tight end and FOX NFL Sunday analyst Rob Gronkowski called the Patriots' turnaround "one of the best in sports"—from last year's collapse to hoisting a Super Bowl berth with Mike Vrabel as head coach. This marks just the third time New England has reached the Super Bowl without Brady.
"Pats Nation, we're going back to the Super Bowl, baby. That's what I'm talking about."
Gronkowski also made a bold prediction about Patriots owner Robert Kraft: "That gold jacket is 100% waiting for RKK to go into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. There's no doubt about that. He's one of the best owners in all of sports."
