Expert Prediction: 9-8 Record Under New Leadership

The Steelers face immediate uncertainty with the coaching transition from Mike Tomlin to Mike McCarthy. Analyst Ralph Vacchiano projects a 9-8 finish, but warns the season hinges on Aaron Rodgers' health and availability.

"So much of the Pittsburgh Steelers' season is riding on the old shoulders of Aaron Rodgers — whether he plays again, or whether he can defy his age for one more season. Whoever their quarterback is will immediately have a tougher challenge if Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow can stay healthy, making the AFC North games much more of a minefield."

The AFC North alone presents a gauntlet that could define Pittsburgh's season.

Betting Reality: Long Odds to Contend

Oddsmakers aren't optimistic. FanDuel Sportsbook sets the Steelers' projected win total at 7.5 wins. Their Super Bowl odds sit at +7500—a massive longshot. Playoff odds are more favorable at +175.

Aggressive Offseason Retooling

Pittsburgh didn't sit idle. The team signed running back Rico Dowdle, acquired wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. in a trade with Indianapolis, and brought in defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day and safety Jaquan Brisker from Chicago.

The draft emphasis focused on offensive line depth with Arizona State tackle Max Iheanachor and Iowa's Gennings Dunker.

Draft Class Earns High Marks

Rob Rang graded Pittsburgh's draft haul an A-, crediting the class as a strong foundation for the McCarthy era.

"Whether [Drew] Allar lives up to his upside or not, this was the kind of draft Steelers fans deserved and it kicks off the Mike McCarthy era in fine form."

Vacchiano ranked the team No. 24 in power rankings post-draft, though he noted Philadelphia's first-round theft of Makai Lemon cost Pittsburgh a stronger evaluation. Still, the overhaul signals serious intent to compete immediately under new management.
