Dak Prescott Favored to Win Comeback Player of the Year

Dak Prescott is the heavy favorite for the 2025-26 season with strong performance and shortened odds, while Christian McCaffrey and others are close contenders.

Joe Burrow set the bar high last season, becoming only the second player ever to win the award twice. After missing seven games with a wrist injury in 2023, he returned to lead the NFL in passing yards (4,918) and touchdowns (43).

Now the field is wide open for the 2025-26 season, with Dak Prescott emerging as the heavy favorite at -170 odds.

The Frontrunner

Prescott, the Cowboys quarterback, has made a dramatic return after playing just eight games last season before a hamstring injury sidelined him. This year, his 3,261 passing yards rank second in the league, as do his 25 touchdowns. His odds have tightened significantly—shortening from +130 at the start of November to -170 now—reflecting strong early-season performance.

Close Behind

Christian McCaffrey of the 49ers sits at +130 odds. The running back played only four games last season before suffering a season-ending right knee injury. This year he's leading the NFL in carries with 237, posting 849 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns, plus 806 receiving yards and five receiving scores.

Long Shots Worth Watching

Aidan Hutchinson, the Lions defensive end, carries +4000 odds. He fractured both his tibia and fibula in Week 6 last season but returned to start this year, recording 8.5 sacks (tied for 10th) and four forced fumbles (tied for second).

Stefon Diggs sits at +5500 after tearing his ACL in Week 8 last season while with the Texans. Now with the Patriots, he's resurrecting his career with 64 receptions and 705 yards this season.

Daniel Jones (+6000) wasn't injured but was benched and released by the Giants after Week 10 last season with an 2-8 record. Now with the Colts at 8-4, he's posted 3,041 passing yards (fifth in NFL) and 19 touchdowns.

Trevor Lawrence (+7000) missed the final seven games last season after a concussion but has led the Jaguars to an 8-4 record this year, throwing for 2,636 yards and 16 touchdowns.
