Giants' Harbaugh Opens Door to Beckham Return
New Giants head coach John Harbaugh is open to the possibility of bringing back Odell Beckham Jr., potentially allowing the star receiver to conclude his career with the team that drafted him.
New Giants head coach John Harbaugh didn't slam the door on bringing back Odell Beckham Jr., leaving open the possibility that the star receiver could finish his career with the team that drafted him.
"The obvious pat answer would be you look at every option, and if Odell is an option, we'll be looking at him for sure," Harbaugh said at the owners meeting Monday.
Beckham's Year Off, Recent Performance
The 33-year-old sat out the entire 2025 NFL season following a stint with the Miami Dolphins. He served a six-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs but has signaled he wants to continue playing.
His appearance at the Fanatics Flag Football Classic in March reignited speculation about a potential 2026 signing. After the event, Beckham told reporters he hoped it would serve as a "starting point" for his return to professional football.
The Harbaugh Connection
The two men already have NFL history. Harbaugh coached Beckham during the 2023 season with the Baltimore Ravens, where the wide receiver posted 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns—a campaign that helped quarterback Lamar Jackson capture his second MVP award and the team reach the AFC Championship Game.
Despite the Ravens not retaining Beckham after that season, the relationship endured.
"He and I do talk. We do text. We've maintained a really great relationship. He's one of my very favorite people in the world."
Beckham's Giants Legacy
Beckham, selected 12th overall in the 2014 NFL Draft, was one of the league's elite receivers during his five-year New York tenure. He won Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2014 with 1,305 receiving yards and delivered the iconic one-handed catch that defined his early career. He also matched Lance Alworth's record for fewest games needed to reach 4,000 career receiving yards, posting at least 1,300 yards in his first three seasons before the Giants traded him to Cleveland in 2019.
Giants' Receiver Questions
New York faces depth concerns at wide receiver heading into 2026. Malik Nabers, potentially one of the league's top receivers, is recovering from an ACL tear that cut short his second season. The team lost veteran Wan'Dale Robinson in free agency but signed Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin to bolster the position. They also added tight end Isaiah Likely on a three-year deal from Baltimore.
